Wm. Mulherin’s Sons in Philadelphia

Equipment specified by Singer Equipment Company

Specifying team: Michael Ewart

It’s an honor and a privilege to be the supplying dealer for Wm. Mulherin’s Sons, a landmark restaurant property that is steeped in rich American history.

William Mulherin was an Irish immigrant who came to the United States at the age of fifteen and eventually founded the Philadelphia Rye Whiskey Distillery in 1899. Mulherin saw the importance of family-ownership and operation when he renamed the business Wm. Mulherin & Sons one year later, moving his business to its final location at the corner of Front and Master Streets in downtown Philadelphia.

The distillery was shuttered during prohibition and remained vacant until 2014, when Method Hospitality took hold of the space and began its restoration. This was a chance to support the partnership of yet another family-owned company, by sourcing equipment from Singer Equipment Company.

The open kitchen plan breaths warmth into the dining room, primarily from a cavernous oven that churns out pizzas and other wood-fired fare. The bar is stocked with Hoshizaki and Perlick equipment, keeping ice on hand, for those who dare to add cubes to Mulherin’s signature Winner Whiskey.

Behind the scenes, flames don’t require further stoking. Technology does the talking with Southbend and Alto-Shaam cooking equipment, and more.
